My little boy is 2! (Or as he says "1, 2" or "1, 3, 2" as he holds up 2 fingers.) He is such a fun character and sure keeps us on our toes! We were able to celebrate David's 2nd birthday the Sunday before his birthday with David's Grandma and Grandpa Darrington and a few friends. I made him a tractor cake (which I'm pretty proud of and I feel like turned out MUCH better than his 1st birthday cake!) He was SO excited about everything (having friends over, the cake, presents and all the attention)!!! It was so much fun.
A little bit about David at 2. . .
-Weighed 24.5 lbs at his 2 year well child check and measured 36 1.4". Coming in at the 10th %ile for weight and 75th %ile for height. A couple weeks later when I weighed him he weighed 25.8 lbs. Silly kid ate so much he grew 1.3 lbs!
-He loves to read stories. He will bring me books and ask me "read book momma."
-He loves songs and loves to sing. I will find him singing "pocorn" (Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree), "Clean Up, Clean Up," or his own made up song! His new favorite is "Happy Birthday!" Guess you know what we've been singing lots of lately!
-Nothing is out of reach anymore. He can climb anything (my bar stools which are pretty tall), open doors, move chairs to get what he wants. . . I think he's spiderman! I swear that kid can scale walls. We've had to make sure outside doors are bolted and have put child proof door handles on some inside doors.
-He likes the phone. :) As Brett's brother Casey and grandma Darrington know quite well. As I said before, David pretty much knows how to get whatever he wants which has become quite the challenge for us! David LOVES the phones and can always find them. Once he gets Brett's phone he calls Casey or Grandma and Grandpa D (the only 2 that have photos in Brett's contacts). He has left fun messages on their phone or had quite intellectual conversations with his cousin Kendal (Kendal--"Hi David, Hi David, Hi David" and David--"Ball, Basketball, Ball, Basketball hoop") for minutes. . . David's message to Grandma and Grandpa D consisted of 2+ minutes of "Hi Grandpa. . . Hi Grandpa! Hi Grandpa, hi Grandpa!"
-He's learning SO much and getting so many new words. The other day as I was making dinner he climbed up to the table, pointed to the avocado, and told me "Mamma, cado mmmmmmmmmm!" All the time I find myself thinking "how did he come up with that?" or "when did he learn that word?!?"
-Got his last couple teeth (at least before the 2 year molars). His final tooth of the first 20 came in only 3 days before his 2nd birthday! I think he's working on his molars, but I can't see them yet. They seem to be giving us a lot of trouble. . . he is waking up in the middle of the night SCREAMING and will tell me "momma it hurts" or "teeth hurt momma" as he points to the back of his teeth or his ears. :(
-We're having a bit of a biting challenge. He's not had a problem at home and only had 1 day at nursery (where he bit like 2 or 3 kids), but he's had several days at daycare. I think his mouth hurts from teething and I'm wondering if it is also associated with him getting toys taken away from him or getting frustrated with other children, but I really hope it doesn't last much longer! We are talking about it ALL the time and trying to teach him better strategies, but it sure doesn't help those kids who are getting snacked on by my son.

-He always wants to be with his sister and do what she does and have her do what he does and play with her and hold her! He LOVES her so much and she ADORES him. I had a friend tell me when Becca was still very little, "the best gift you can give your child is a sibling." How true! I've learned that it's not always easy having 2 little ones and can especially be challenging having 2 little ones so close together who still need their momma so much, but seeing the two of them interact and their love for each other makes me the happiest momma in the world!
-He is such an imaginative little guy! His play is so fun to watch and I love to see him pretend. He frequently wants to play "doggie" or "hee haw, cowboy." Surprisingly enough his play often also includes balls (okay really not much of a surprise there), cars, dolls, and stuffed animals.
