All About Me!

So, this last month has been all about ME!!! How fun, right? :) I had my birthday, our anniversary and Mother's Day all in 2 weeks. . . what a great time of year! It gets a little exhausting for Brett, but he's a good sport and gets it all the "me" holidays out of the way in a hurry! For my birthday I got a Wii Fit Plus and am having so much fun with it. Also, can I just say, my husband knows me perfectly! For our anniversary I got Veggietales Abe and the Amazing Promise (I LOVE Veggietales and the story of Abraham and Sarah reminds me of our little miracle!) and for Mother's Day I got bubble bath and a yummy candle. . . perfect for the end of a long day. Okay, you can all relax, this entire post won't be all about me. I know what's important to you all!

Well, our little man is now 3 months old and funnier than ever! We just love him so much and are enjoying watching him grow and get his own little personality. Some events of the last month:

-We put away David's 0-3 clothes and got out his 3-6 clothes! I can't believe how fast my baby is growing!
-David discovered his feet and now his favorite thing to do in the bath tub is stare at them, move them around, and coo and giggle!
-This month he went to his first sporting event. . . we were so excited when we got warm enough weather to go to one of dad's track meets and now we've been to 3! This is just the start, I'm sure our little guy will be attending a lot of sports events in his life.
-David is babbling a lot still, but has extended his skills to blowing raspberries with his tongue. He loves this and thinks he's so darn funny! He blows raspberries then laughs and smiles and does it again.
-Naps have become a challenge as David has decided he'd rather be awake and socialize, so he fights sleep then gets grouchy! It's just so fun to play with mommy and daddy! Nights, however, are wonderful. We get 7 hours of sleep, wake up to eat and then sleep for a few more hours! YEAH!
-Another big event of this month is that David met mommy's students and some of daddy's students. Oh how kids love babies!

And here's a few pictures of our handsome little dude. . .
Yummy thumb!

Happy Mother's Day

Real Mothers:

Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
they don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough
doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know
what the vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?' and get their answer
when a little voice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth
is not measured by height or years or grade...

It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother...

It's hard to know how to start on a subject that is so dear to my heart, yet has also been a source of many heartaches and tears. I guess I'll start out by stating my profound appreciation and love for my mom and mother-in-law. My mom has always been there for me. Although my mom worked at times in my childhood, I always considered her a "stay at home mom." I think the reason I think of her in this way is that she was so supportive of me and all her children. I don't know a piano recital or choir performance that she didn't attend. My mom taught me morals, values, and of a kind and loving Father in Heaven. She taught me to be frugal and resourceful. She laughed and celebrated with me and she wiped my tears. She taught me to nurture and care. My mom taught me to cook and sew. All that being said, I guess I could sum it all up by saying that I am the wife and mother that I am because of my mom. My mother-in-law raised a fabulous son who is such a great support and companion. She is fun and caring. She loves to gather her family around her and they are her #1 priority. She has made me feel a part of her family and has been such a great example to me. She is generous and charitable.

For me, I have so much to be grateful for and to celebrate this Mother's Day. I LOVE being a mother and have waited so long for this opportunity. I love my son and appreciate and love my dear husband. I feel like I often speak of my challenges and trials in having children and I don't want to write much on that today, but I do want to remember those who have what Sister Julie B. Beck calls a "Mother heart." In church today a Sister in our ward gave a beautiful talk on motherhood which included a lovely quote by Sheri Dew. I was so touched that I came home and looked the quote up and read her talk. It is entitled "Are We Not All Mothers?" It was so beautiful and such a reminder of my trials and of those I know who are still yearning for children that I wanted to share it. You can find it at this link: http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=291c8c6a47e0c010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD
I want to finish up by sharing one of my favorite quotes from this talk.

"While we tend to equate motherhood solely with maternity, in the Lord's language, the word mother has layers of meaning. Of all the words they could have chosen to define her role and her essence, both God the Father and Adam called Eve "the mother of all living"--and they did so before she ever bore a child . . . Motherhood is more than bearing children, though it is certainly that. It is the essence of who we are as women. It defines our very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits our Father gave us."

Is This My Baby? And Other Things.

So I morphed pictures of me and Brett and the first picture is what it came up with for our baby. The second is a recent picture of David. What do you think? Is that my baby? Kind of fun and a little creepy! :) I definitely think the real thing is a whole lot cuter, but that's just me!

Well, a little going on in our lives. I just had my birthday, today is our 6th anniversary, and Sunday is Mother's Day. This time of year is all about ME! :) WOW! A lot of things all together. . . I am also getting ready to go back to work in a week and a few days. :( I have realized this week that I do miss my students and the interaction with my coworkers, but I am NOT happy to leave my little guy for 8+ hours a day. And he is not happy about it either, he loves his mommy! The nice thing is that it is only for 2 1/2 weeks and then school is out for the summer! Also, his grandma is coming for the 1st week and then a girl in our ward who just lives down the street is taking him for the next week and a half, so that makes me feel better to know he'll be taken care of. Anyway, Happy May (ours here in Idaho came with LOTS of wind for the past couple weeks and snow yesterday morning) and may spring come soon! Can't wait for warmer weather!
