You might think by this title that the post is about me (David's too young to sew and Brett on a sewing machine, YIKES! Right?). . . However, if that is your thought (as it would be mine), you are VERY wrong! It is in fact about our little family of 3 (soon to be 4) and no it is not about a present or the likes that we received. I guess that means we better rethink our possibilities. . . David, still too young to sew? DEFINITELY! Brett on a sewing machine?!?!?!? REALLY?
ABSOLUTELY!
Now I understand the list of questions running through your minds (at least I know I had a list of them). What? Really? Why? Who was forcing him? What could he possibly want to do on a sewing machine? Let me tell you.
My dear sweet husband came to me the other day with a "brilliant" idea. His case for his fly rod was wearing out and he just knew he could make a better one. He was going to use old jeans and it was an easy project. A bag with some lines sewn down it for compartments. Simple. Then as the thought process progressed he decided that he also wanted a fishing satchel so he could have something lightweight to take with him when he wanted to make some long hikes to fly fish. This too was going to be out of old jeans (such a thrifty guy I have, didn't want to spend money on fabric when we had some old denim lying around!) He drew a picture of what he wanted it to look like (because, of course, no pre-made pattern was good enough for my man) and we got started. I designed the pattern and he did everything else (with some guidance and teaching, of course, since he'd never used a sewing machine or pattern before). He even shopped for the extras he needed in the fabric store! After 3 full days of work (and I mean FULL days. . . we breathed, ate, and slept sewing) he finished and I have to say, it all turned out pretty nice! Don't believe me? Have a look.
Brett hard at work. . .
An up close and personal view of the satchel and fly rod bag (with Brett's added prop of his fly rod/reel). . .
And now, here's a little update on a few of the other things we've been up to lately. Brett has been practicing his fly casting in the backyard a lot lately and has also decided to teach David. It is the cutest thing ever and David LOVES it. When Brett is practicing Brett even gets out an old fishing pole for David and David runs around swing the pole around.
For the 4th of July we went to the grand ole Raft River Days. It was a BLAST. My sis and her family came up and we were also able to see 2 of Brett's siblings and his parents. My sis ran in the 5K (finishing 1st in her age division--WAY TO GO!) and my 3 yr old niece ran in the kids 1 mile run with Brett (she ran the whole way and finished with a grin--WHAT A TROOPER!). David did the water-slide for the first time and we also had a grand time digging for eggs with $ in them, candy cannon, live band, toilet throwing, and fireworks! It was such a fun fourth! Unfortunately I forgot my camera. . . so I have no pictures (my sis is supposed to email me some). David also got to go ride on the swather with Grandpa D and LOVED it! (Got some cute pictures of that on Grandma's camera. . .) We've also been slowly preparing for the arrival of baby sister. We talk a lot about it with David and he gets excited (he even pointed to the ultrasound pictures and said sister the other day). Still probably doesn't really have any clue what is going to hit him in a couple months, but we're trying! I have crocheted some baby hats, mittens, and booties that are adorable and PINK! I need to work on a few more projects, but we'll see how far we get! Hope you're all enjoying your summer and having as much fun as we are!
